The R was founded in 2011 by Rui Lopo and Rita Carvalho and is based in Oliveira de Azeméis.
It started by a common vision about architecture and art. From that principle was born the first identity R architects which later unites the two partners in marriage. With the evolution of projects and the constant passion for the art of creation, a collection of houses was developed, called "As Matriarcas" as a tribute to our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, in essence to all the great women of Portugal. It was then that the houses atelier emerged, resulting in the name R home atelier with a more modern vision and very focused on pieces of author creation. After a decade of challenges, many projects were accomplished, with two children in between, several collaborators and trainees, the present moment emerges to reinforce Lopo's identity, with a new image R Lopo Atelier is our space, the R that accompanies us.
We believe that each project is unique and should be treated in a unique and personalized way.
We are grateful for the opportunities and we know that the best is yet to come.
To be sustainable is to know how to use the natural resources offered by nature in a conscious way, without compromising the total availability of these goods for future generations.
The projects we develop are based on an ecological basis of regeneration of materials, providing whenever possible the reintegration of existing parts in order to reduce the diversified use of materials, following the 1947 maxim "less is more" by Mies van der Rohe.
We seek to encourage our clients to use renewable energy sources, such as green roofs, in order to prioritize low energy consumption in the building specialties. Essentially we aim to obtain maximum
performance with the least impact possible, combining our touch of modernity and aesthetics through a "Green" attitude in the projects and works in which we are involved, whether in the public or private sector.
Our intention is to increasingly maintain and strengthen the connection and balance between nature, human beings, and the buildings.
